Dayton Public Schools wants families to get a sneak peak at where your children can attend school next year (and get a jumpstart on enrollment), in your neighborhood or at a district-wide school of choice.

Student Assignment employees will be in schools around the district from Feb. 13 to March 1 to pre-register incoming kindergarten students and those brand-new to the district for the 2012-13 school year (see schedule below). In addition, families can tour their neighborhood schools during these events.

Pre-registration allows families to get a jump-start on enrolling their students by completing the paperwork process early, well before the start of the next school year. Parents are asked to bring the appropriate documentation, to assist in completing the registration process; a list of these documents is available here. Important: Families must bring all required documentation at the time of their visit in order to successfully pre-register students.

The pre-registration process also asks parents to choose their top options for school placement. This includes schools in their neighborhood attendance area, or district-wide schools (River’s Edge Montessori, Charity Adams Earley Girls Academy and the Dayton Boys Prep Academy).

“Taking advantage of the pre-registration process allows families to avoid long lines later at Student Assignment, and helps ensure students are ready to be placed when open enrollment begins,” said Shelia Burton, executive director, assessment and accountability.

By signing up during the pre-registration process, families are putting themselves “at the head of the line” with regard to school placement. Open enrollment begins March 5, and school assignment letters will be sent that week.
