A Note From Our Principal
The Future Of Dayton Starts Here
About Our School
Edison Elementary School serves 439 students in pre-kindergarten to eighth grade. We are located at 228 N. Broadway St., Dayton, OH, 45402. The Broadway location is a part of the Wright Dunbar neighborhood of Innerwest Dayton, where revitalization efforts are underway in residential and nearby commercial areas. There are several historically important sites near the school, including the Wright Brothers/Paul Laurence Dunbar National Park and Interpretive Center, the Wright Brothers Cycle Shop, and the Paul Laurence Dunbar Home and Ohio Historical Association Park.
Through partnership with the YMCA, the Neighborhood School Center (NSC) at Edison refocuses resources to better serve families, to increase academic achievement of students, and to develop positive community involvement of residents. The NSC programs improve the academic success of students through after-school programs, which include an academic component and enrichment activities.
Edison is in its third year of Positive School Climate (PSC). The goal of the program is to decrease inappropriate student behavior and develop respectful, responsible and in control students. The basis of the program is to reward students for exhibiting positive behavior in all areas of the school building. Edison is in year two of Schlechty Working on the Work. The goal of this program is for teachers to become designers of engaging lessons. These engaging lessons will then create students that are no longer being ritually compliant but are truly engaged in their learning.
