For Immediate Release

During the ninth annual DPS National History Day competition in March, projects were centered around a single theme: “Revolution, Reaction, Reform in History.” This year’s crop of entries spanned continents and centuries, addressing such diverse subjects as Woodstock, Picasso, the video game Pong, the assembly line, and Impressionism.

From an initial pool of more than 100 entries, 17 will continue on to state level competition, held April 28 in Columbus.

Students participate in History Day events at the district, state and national levels.  Historians, educators and professionals in related fields evaluate students’ work in each state.  Winners from district events will compete against 600 or more entries in the state event.  Fifty will be selected to compete at National History Day, June 10-14, at the University of Maryland.

Originally sponsored by Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio, in the 1970s, National History Day, with its competitions, awards and educational activities, has grown into a national event based in Washington, D.C.

For more information about the district event, contact NHD coordinator Teresa Troyer at 542-3344.
